My name is Brett Borders and I’m an independent blogger, SEO and social media consultant based in Boulder, Colorado.

I’ve been involved in social media culture for the past 19 years, and I’ve been an active member of several hundred online communities.

I first went online in 1990 via local BBSes – and I quickly found my way onto the internet years before public ISPs were available in my area. My academic background is in sociology and interactive marketing, and I have worked professionally as an English teacher in Japan, a copywriter, a PR guy, and an in-house SEO consultant at a Web development firm. In March of 2008 I quit my corporate job and went freelance. I now tend to work a lot more hours, but I also learn more about internet marketing from being “in the trenches” and having to personally deliver results.

I am obsessed with what makes people and organizations successful in social media… so I decided to start this blog as way to study, research and share my findings with others.
